Courage

Courage is a 1987 Kadey Krogen trawler built for Krogen by the Chen Wha Boat Company in Taiwan. She is 42 feet long on the deck, has a 15-foot beam and draws 4 feet 7 inches. Her displacement is 39,000 pounds. She is fiberglass construction with coring in the hull. Photographs of her are on the web site in the Photo Gallery section.

Starting below and forward, there is a stall shower in the forepeak. A VacuFlush head, sink and mirrored vanity are immediately aft. The head has two screened, opening port lights.

Down one step to the master stateroom that has an offset queen berth to starboard, and built-in mirrored dresser and large hanging locker to port. The master features three screened, opening port lights and a screened, opening hatch overhead. Aft and down one step, is the guest stateroom/study to starboard, with a head with stall shower and a VaucFlush toilet, sink and mirrored vanity opposite. There is an opening port light in the head, and two opening port lights in the stateroom. The guest stateroom features a lower single berth and a fold down pullman berth. This space also functions as a study/office with built-in teak desk, hanging locker and drawer and shelf storage. A locker aft to port in the main passageway houses a Bendix WDS 1043M combo washer and dryer.

Up four steps to the salon with he galley forward and to starboard, it has a Galley Maid Empress three-burner propane stove with oven, a double stainless steel sink, SubZero refrigerator & freezer, and a Galaxy microwave oven. Hot water is supplied by a Raritan 12 gallon hot water heater with 115 VAC shore power and engine heating supply. There is a pressurized fresh water hot and cold water system throughput the boat. The salon has an L-shaped settee aft to starboard. There are large, sliding windows port and starboard to provide ample light and natural ventilation. A Magnavox 15" LCD TV is mounted on a swing out arm on the aft bulkhead. A solid teak folding dinette table stores conveniently along port bulkhead in salon and comfortably seats four. There is a breakfront forward to port that has shelves above and storage below as well as the electrical circuit breaker and gen set controls.

The double doors in the salon aft bulkhead open out on to spacious teak cockpit, or "back porch" with a lazarette below, and the transom has a door that swings out onto a teak swim platform.

From the salon, you go up three steps to port to a roomy, raised pilothouse featuring a fully equipped helm station on the centerline with a Raytheon R20XX 16 mile radar, Robertson AP200DL Autopilot, Raymarine ST40 depth sounder, Standard Horizon DS35 depth sounder, Datamarine Sandpiper SL speed and distance log, Rudder angle indicator, Garmin GPS 128 XL tied to a Compaq V6000 laptop with Maptech navigation software, an ICOM BC-162 VHF (handheld with charger), a Standard Horizon Eclipse+ VHF, a Uniden MC535 VHF, and a Danforth Constellation compass. Top and bottom opening Dutch doors to port and starboard provide convenient, direct access to foredeck and the wide, covered side decks with teak facing. There is an elevated settee/watch berth aft with two screened opening port lights in the aft bulkhead. All pilothouse windows have Pfifertex snap on sunscreens.

From the cockpit, you go up a six-step vertical ladder to starboard, through a hatch to the flybridge. The flybridge features a raised helm station forward, flanked by facing teak bench seats. Two propane tanks are stowed beneath the starboard bench, directly above galley. The 11-foot Boston Whaler dinghy is stored on a cradle aft to port. The Yamaha 8 hp 4 stroke outboard for the Whaler is stored on a bracket on the rail. There is a folding aluminum mast and boom with two mechanical winches for launching and retrieving the dinghy.

Forward on the foredeck is an Ideal electric windlass with capstan. A45 pound CQR anchor with all chain rode, a plow anchor with chain and nylon rode. Courage also has another CQR and a Danforth anchors as spares. She had all the required USCG safety equipment.

The foredeck has stanchions with a teak cap rail and lower lifelines. A Mar-Quipt Sea Stairs is carried on the upper deck and attaches by the pilothouse doors port or starboard. Courage is equipped with a HydraMarine hydraulic bow thruster, a holding tank, raw water sea strainers, two automatic bilge pumps, Cruisair two-zone reverse cycle heat and air conditioning, Hynautic hydraulic wheel steering, fresh water cooling, a Halon 1301 fire suppression system, Morse mechanical controls, and a Bilge blower.

She has a Northern Lights 8 KW generator, a Heart Interface 1500W inverter & battery charger, 30A shore power supply and cables, 12V DC, 110V AC, Four 8-D batteries, One 24D battery (generator) Three, 40 Amp battery charger, Phase The main propulsion engine is a Ford Lehman 135 horsepower diesel with a Velvet Drive transmission. The 2-inch stainless steel drive shaft has a Dripless shaft seal and a three blade fixed 28 x 22 inch propeller.

Port and starboard saddle tanks with sight tubes hold 600 gallons of diesel fuel that goes through a Racor filter and two engine filters. There is an electric pump to transfer fuel between the two tanks. There is a fresh water tank that holds 300 gallons.
