The Castle Peles in Sinaia was built by King Carlos the First of Romania from about 1860 to 1914 at a cost of 60 million Romanian gold Lei. In 1910 the gold Lei was worth about $12 US. He proudly told everyone that it was built with his own money. I asked how he earned his money and was told that he was paid a salary by the Country to be King! I asked if the job was open and if I could fill out an application!
