The whaler Charles W. Morgan operated as a whaler for over 70 years - amazing for a wooden boat - from 1842 to the 1920s. The first cargo of whale oil brought in $50,000 in 1844 and paid the entire cost of buildng and outfitting the ship. The largest value of a single carge was over $160,000 in the 1860's! A very nice investment for her owners!

Sue next to one of the very graceful rowing dinghys he designed and built. Even though he died 70 years ago, many of his boats are lovingly restored and maintained and are still o the water - and still winning races against the modern high tech boats!
