We head north from Marathon

Since the last entry to the log, we left Marathon and spent two days getting back up the west coast of Florida via Little Shark River, Marco Island and then Naples. In Naples, we had the second annual GE Erie Reunion with Marsha French, Phil and Lucille Mickelson, and Al Gaetjens. They all met us at the boat at the Naples City Dock and we had lunch there at the Dockside Restaurant which has good service and good food. The next day, Al joined Sue and me on Courage for the trip up to Ft Myers outside in the Gulf. It was a little windier than I thought it would be and the chop and rolling motion got to Al but he recovered and enjoyed the last part of the trip. Sue and I are lucky and have (almost) never been bothered by the motion even though at times it is very uncomfortable and not fun.
We stayed in Ft Myers on the mooring a couple of days and then went north to Punta Gorda where we met with high school classmates Judy (Super) Keane and her husband John, and Jill (Danch) Mescena and her husband Tony. We all camped at the Keane’s house for the afternoon and evening with the gals talking and the guys watching the NCAA basketball games. As always it was fun and we appreciate the Keane’s hospitality. Sue will see them again this summer when we are back north.
We left Punta Gorda, did an overnight anchoring at Useppa Island and then back to Ft Myers and the mooring for the night. The next day we went east up the Caloosahatchee River and the Franklin and Ortona locks to the Glades Boat Storage yard. Courage was hauled yesterday and the new bow thruster propeller (two boat units $$$!) was installed – hopefully this time correctly!
This afternoon we will launch again and move to Mark Richter’s dock for more project work with him. We have decided to go back to Ft Myers next Wednesday to the mooring and wait there for the new Langford grand baby who has now officially been scheduled for birth on April 19th.
I will be flying back to Philadelphia April 6th for a Fresh Creek board meeting, then driving to Brecksville to visit with my son Rich and his family and then on the Boston to visit with Chris, Louisa and Neva before they leave for their one year assignment in Bucharest, Romania! I get to visit with Liz at the start and end of the trip before I come back to Ft Myers on the 17th. A lot of travel but a good time to visit with three of my families.
